Pre Searing Pets?
just a real quick question. Ive read literally the entire thread on presearing lvling, and although im not intending on creating a high lvl pre searing character, i do wish to take advantage of some of the aspects of pre searing lvling. My main concern is that of pets, if i take the time and effort to get a half decent pet, am i going to lose this as soon as i leave pre searing?
Im only asking this because ive played the game for roughly 2 and a half hours, so be nice. |

No, it stays with you
Pet's only dissapear when you talk to certain NPC characters that deal with them. They will seem to dissapear if you take Charm Animal off your skill bar, but as soon as you put it back on you get your pet back. |

I always go with the pig. If I had to choose between Wolf or Bear (assuming you can still charm a bear and have some help and it ain`t easy) I`d go Wolf, Bears are too slow.

I am amazed at the variety of pets they let you have in pre. I gues this is because they dont want you to feel you have to swith in post.
So you get to charm almost every pet in pre, except some area specific stuff like Dune Lizard and the UW spider. |

Also keep in mind that if your secondary is ranger and have a pet and then later on change to a different profession, once you go back to ranger you will still have your pet.

I don't remember seeing any wolves in pre-searing, but I might be wrong. The bears in pre-searing cannot be charmed unless you have a partner that takes the aggro while your charming because of the interupts.

ok who wants to tell the guy that red dots cannot be charmed...
and bears have interupts? I doubt it unless theres somthing thats not mentioned in the manuals... Bears and wolfs can only be charmed in post... Last edited by D.E.V.i.A.N.C.E; Mar 21, 2006 at 03:50 PM // 15:50.. |

You can charm the level 2 wolves and the level 5 bears. The bears are a royal pain in the rear to charm because of their skill Charm Break, but it is possible. It involves the painfully precise timing of a team of 2 so that the bear is out of range to break your charm while you're charming it (however, 'out of range' means it'll be out of range for your charm too, hence the painful timing of the thing). In the Pet Guide thread, Epinephrine has screens of the one he got when testing the above method. Somewhere in the thread the method is described more precisely, I believe. It works but really isn't worth the trouble, since the bear is the worst pet available. |

Yes, the bears in Pre-searing interupt your action when trying to charm. And since charm animal is a long cast it gives the bear a huge window to interupt your action. It cannot be done solo unless you find a way to aggro the bear from behind a wall or from on top of a cliff where it cant get to you. |

...wait... what? You weren't joking? ...oh. Sorry. I assume that you're refering to this pet guide? Yeah... after rigorous testing it shows that the bear attacks slower than all other pets by a pretty wide margin (approximately 22%), even though it does the same damage per attack. Brutal Mauling slows down the attack rate from what would be a normal attack rate leaving the bear pretty pathetic. Rumor has it that at some time before the release of the game, Brutal Mauling caused knock-down and therefore was balanced with the slower attack rate. After the removal of the knock-down effect, the attack itself was left. The result is one sad, sad bear. Quote:

I'll just throw this one thing in argument in favor of charming a bear:
they are great body blockers. If you deal in areas where there are choke points, a bear can take up a lot of space making it harder for enemiest to break through to you. People who have farmed Tombs know this. |

They all take up the same space so it doesn't really matter.
